With five days left until the NBA Draft commences, there’s still speculation as to who the Cleveland Cavaliers will select with the No. 1 overall selection.
After taking Anthony Bennett as the top pick last year, needless to say, Cleveland has a boatload of pressure to not mess it up this time around. And now there’s reports claiming they’re zeroing in on their guy.
According Ken Berger of CBS Sports, the Cavaliers are reportedly leaning towards selecting Duke forward Jabari Parker with the No. 1 overall pick.
Kansas’ forward Joel Embiid for weeks was projected to be Cleveland’s option, but now that he’ll be sidelined for four-to-six months after undergoing foot surgery, the organization must go in a different direction. Cleveland officials believe Parker is more NBA ready than Kansas’ guard Andrew Wiggins.
Parker and Wiggins are both expected to become prolific all-around NBA talents, following outstanding seasons as freshmen at the collegiate level. So, to say that one is going to be better than the other is premature, but Parker and Kyrie Irving would make a deadly tandem together in Cleveland.
If Parker does in fact get selected by Cleveland, there’s no question that the Milwaukee Bucks will take Wiggins with the No. 2 pick.
