The Detroit Pistons have found their new head coach.

According to ESPN NBA reporter Marc Stein, Detroit has reportedly hired Stan Van Gundy as the new head coach in Piston-land. Van Gundy will also become Detroit’s president of basketball operations.

Stein is also reporting that Van Gundy is set to receive a five-year deal worth an estimated $35 million, and will release an official announcement this week.

After six-straight losing seasons, Detroit is trying to get back to their winning ways – something Van Gundy has a reputation in.

In eight seasons as a head coach, Van Gundy has delivered a career record of 371-208. Reaching the NBA Finals back in 2009 and the Eastern Conference Finals twice (2005, ’06), although Van Gundy’s never won a title, he has the experience to get his team there. Van Gundy also has never had a losing record.

The last time Van Gundy coached in the NBA was with Orlando in 2012, when former Magic center Dwight Howard allegedly wanted him relieved of his duties.

Detroit is set to hold a news conference Thursday to officially announce the hiring of Van Gundy – per Stein.
